Using LEDs to "Surprise and Delight"
New LED (light-emitting diode) technology has led to a revolution in automotive interior lighting. These rugged, miniature, cool-burning and long-lasting light sources are popping up everywhere.
But what if you could get different-colored lights from the same LEDs?
Gentex's proprietary Orca LED technology provides white, high-intensity map lamps, and uniquely colored console lighting from the same LED module!
Gentex packages blue-green and amber chips in the same LED housing. The tiny chips, or dies - each no larger than a grain of pepper - are so close together that, when illuminated, their colors blend to emit white light. These function as elegant, mirror-borne map lamps.
But perhaps the most interesting aspect of Gentex's Orca technology is that the blue-green and amber chips can also be illuminated independently. This allows the lamps to bathe the vehicle's interior in either a warm-yellow or cool-blue light.
Call it what you want - center console lighting, ambiance lighting, mood lighting - but the bottom line is, it just looks plain cool!
Plus, since the lighting module is below the driver's line-of-sight, it won't cause glare or hamper driver vision. The auto-dimming mirror's light sensors can automatically activate the ambiance lighting during nighttime driving, or it can be manually activated.
